Chris Paulsen


House of Travel Australia

Chris has worked in the travel industry since he left school – nine years with Air New Zealand, then subsequently in his own businesses. He purchased a wholesale travel business with a friend in 1977, sold it 10 years later, then went on to form House of Travel in New Zealand based on the conviction that there was a market need for a very consumer-focused travel offering.

In bringing House of Travel to Australia, Chris has provided consumers the opportunity to experience the added value difference of a consumer-focused offering.

Chris is Executive Chairman of House of Travel New Zealand, and Director of House of Travel Australia. In 2006, Chris was awarded New Zealand Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award, The Prime Minister’s Social Hero Award in 2007, and the Chairman’s Circle Honour from the US Travel Association in 2013.

Barry Mayo

Barry has had in excess of 50 years in the travel and aviation industries, with a career spanning six airlines, the startup of a tour wholesaling business and roles as managing director of an international tour operator and CEO of a retail travel franchise company operating in nine countries.

He is a past Chairman of IATA’s Australian Travel Agency Program, past President of The Australian Chapter of the American Society of Travel Agents, plus a past member of the Board of Airline Representatives for Australia and the Royal Institute of Transport in Australia.

Joe Araullo

Before becoming House of Travel Australia’s CEO in 2007, Joe held senior positions within Qantas and was the General Manager of Harvey’s Choice Holidays in Australia.

Over the past 25 years Joe has worked with airlines and wholesalers, plus in retail travel across the United Kingdom, North America and Australia.

Joe’s extensive knowledge of the travel industry and the strong relationships he has formed along the way, enables him to identify market opportunities for TravelManagers Australia and Hoot Holidays.

Grant Campbell

Chief Operating Officer

Grant has more than 20 years’ experience in the travel industry including two years working in the UK as Head of Finance for a publicly listed company.

Grant’s previous experience includes work in travel franchising and as a business owner, giving him good insight into the challenges that small business owners face.

Michael Gazal

General Manager

Travelmanagers Australia

Michael has over 30 years’ experience in the travel industry working with airlines and in retail travel. Previously as a part owner of a Harvey World Travel franchise for 14 years, he became State Manager for the same group, managing over 70 franchisees in Victoria and Tasmania.

As General Manager for TravelManagers, Michael draws on his extensive experience in developing travel businesses, to provide insights and guidance in growing a home-based travel network.

Robert Fitt

Finance Manager

A Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants, Robert has over 25 years of experience in financial management through a number of roles across a range of business structures and industries; including professional accounting firms, real estate franchising, international logistics and travel.
